My journey at B&W started immediately after completing my master’s degree in mechanical engineering. The company offered me a working environment that was like a family, where everyone was not just a colleague but part of the community. We all gave our best and found priceless moments of bonding in the activities we did together after work.
It wasn’t just a job for me, it was like a second family!
Yes, you often hear that – but I really mean it! My name is René Dietrich and I turned my back on B&W and looked for a new job. But I didn’t stay there for long …
The decision to leave B&W was difficult for me right from the start. Everything here was much more than just okay. But I was striving for personal development and wanted to break new ground. Perhaps you know the feeling; after school, it’s much more fun not to study in your own city, but to look for a new place. My new job as a test engineer was interesting, but the rigid structures and the lack of a sense of community made me feel doubtful after just a few weeks. I missed the flexibility that had allowed me to share important moments with my family at B&W, a value that was always upheld there. I realised that my new job was just a job. That’s not enough for me! And yes, let’s be frank: The pay wasn’t bad, but I’m sure in 2023 we all know by now that salary is not the sole reason to be motivated to come to work in the morning. Isn’t it?
A conscious return
When I returned to B&W, I did so in the knowledge that I was returning to values that were important to me. I found a familiar working environment where I had the freedom to organise my work around my life.

adapt. I was able to leave early on my daughter’s birthday to celebrate with my family, and when needed, we all pulled together to successfully complete projects. B&W taught me that a company needs to be more than a place to work – it can be a place of growth, development and a fulfilling personal life. And as I said, yes, you often hear that – but I really mean it!
After this experience, I know that B&W is not only about projecting a positive image to the outside world, but also about keeping promises and living values. B&W stands for flexibility, community and appreciation of the individual. These principles make B&W an attractive employer at a time when work-life balance is becoming increasingly important. My return to B&W was also a return to my roots, where I could combine my passion for engineering with a respectful work environment that honours both my needs and those of my family. B&W gave me back the wings I needed to not only work, but to live.
My story is just one of many here at B&W, but it illustrates what can be achieved when a company values its employees. B&W is an example of how you can shine as a strong, authentic brand. Just a medium-sized company? No; we are a place where every individual counts and contributes to the bigger picture. I am proud to be part of B&W and look forward to continuing to grow together.
My return to B&W is a story of growth, seeking challenges and realising what really matters in life. It’s a story that shows how a company can not only attract employees through its values, but also win them back and retain them for the long term. We are B&W. We are a family, a community, a team. And I am proud to be a part of it again.
